Themba Sonnyboy Sekowecame, whose stage name is DJ Maphorisa, appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 26 July, for submission of representation to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Amapiano producer arrived in court in a black T-shirt, jeans, and shades, unfortunately, the case was postponed to 25 August, awaiting a decision from the DPP.

TSZ Mzansi learned that in June, the case had previously been postponed for DJ Maphorisa to submit his legal representation to the DPP, though the courtroom was said to have been full compared to his previous appearance on 5 July.

“It was alleged that the suspect assaulted his victim at an apartment in Sandton.
A statement shared by the NPA Phindi Mjonondwane revealed Maphorisa assaulted Thuli Phongolo by hitting her with open hands and strangled her after she confronted him about an incident that happened the previous night where he was booked to perform.

However, the court granted Maphorisa release on R4,000 bail after Thuli filed a withdrawal statement agreeing for the DJ to be released.
