This past weekend has been nothing short of a dramatic reality show for the Twala family. The sons of the renowned musician and producer, Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala, have found themselves in hot water.
Longwe Twala and Sello Twala were arrested on charges of theft, a situation their father regrettably confirmed while he was in the USA.
According to Chicco, Longwe and Sello took a step beyond sibling rivalry and decided to break into his music studios. Allegedly under the influence of drugs, the Twala brothers pilfered equipment worth thousands of rand.
The aftermath was a police case at the Douglasdale station that no amount of family therapy could resolve.
To add a little more spice to the situation, this is not Longwe Twala’s first ride on the legal merry-go-round. In January 2020, he was detained for allegedly snatching a cellphone.
A viral video showed Chicco escorting Longwe to the Diepkloof Police Station in a move that seemed less fatherly guidance and more ‘take your child to jail’ day.
Chicco openly mentioned his son’s long history of drug addiction and the resultant estrangement from the family. Longwe’s troubles have seen him evicted from the family home multiple times, casting a sombre light on the current events.
As of this Tuesday morning, Gauteng police spokesperson Lt-Col. Mavela Masondo confirmed that the charges against Longwe and Sello have been formalized, and both suspects are set to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court facing accusations of theft.
