Veteran musician Sello “Chicco” Twala has made it clear that he is not afraid to take responsibility for his son’s actions.

In response to claims that the police have issued an arrest warrant for his son, Longwe Twala, in connection with the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, Twala stated that he is willing to hand over his drug addict son to the police.

The murder of Senzo Meyiwa, the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, shocked the nation.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s family home in Vosloorus in October 2014. According to a police source, Longwe, who was present in the house on that fateful night, is implicated with Khumalo in Meyiwa’s murder.

However, Twala has made it clear that he is not interested in protecting or defending a criminal, even if it is his son. He stated, “Everybody knows how I feel about the murder of Senzo. If my son has done something wrong, he must go to jail. I will never protect or defend a criminal.”

Twala also denied reports that a warrant of arrest was issued for his son. He revealed that Longwe is currently in rehab in Brakpan, and if the police want to arrest him, they know where to find him.

Twala even went a step further by giving his contact details to the lead investigator in the case, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, stating that he can call him anytime if they want to arrest his son.

It takes a great deal of courage for a parent to acknowledge and accept the wrongdoing of their child. Twala’s willingness to hand over his son to the authorities demonstrates his commitment to justice and the rule of law.

Twala’s statement, “If my son has done something wrong, he must go to jail,” encapsulates the essence of justice. It is a simple yet powerful declaration that resonates with anyone who believes in a fair and just society.

While the outcome of the trial remains uncertain, one thing is clear: Chicco Twala is determined to do what is right, no matter the cost. And that, in itself, is a commendable stance in a world where accountability often takes a backseat.
