Jamali celebrates 20 years anniversary. Experience the magic of Jamali as the iconic girl group graces the stage once again for their 20-Year Legacy Celebration show at the State Theatre in Pretoria this Saturday.

Known for hits like “Love Me For Me,” “Secrets,” and “Dalile,” Jacqui Carpede, Mariechan Luiters, and Liesl Penniken captured hearts when they won the singing competition Coca-Cola Popstars back in 2003.

Their name, Jamali, is a beautiful fusion of the first two letters of each member’s name, inspired by a suggestion from Popstars judge Andy ‘The Admiral’ Kasrils.

As they gear up for the upcoming show, Mariechan, hailing from Stellenbosch, reveals the importance of intense rehearsals to rekindle their enchanting harmony.

Speaking about their individuality, Mariechan explains how each member brings unique strengths to the mix. “One is more of the performer, amazing with lower tones.

The other excels in higher melodies and slow songs, while one takes the lead vocals, like the vocal engine for the group. Celebrating our individuality is what made us gel and sing so beautifully together.”

Though the group took a hiatus, their bond remained unbreakable, with a deep love for music keeping them connected.

Liesl, known for her work on Popstars and Idols SA, advocates for more singing competitions to unearth hidden talents in South Africa, providing stepping stones for aspiring artists.

As Amapiano takes the world by storm, Jacqui believes pop music will continue to reign on the charts, with its relatability and broad appeal.

While the group plans to offer a new song to express gratitude to their fans, they clarify that it doesn’t necessarily mean a full-fledged reunion or new albums.
