Two people have reportedly lost their lives, from flood disaster, as heavy rain continues to dominate Western Cape Town.

According to the South Africa weather service, Cape Town, parts of the west coast, Overberg, and Langeberg municipalities have been issued a yellow level 4 alert for disruptive rain in the coming days.

Cape Town disaster risk management spokesperson Charlotte Powell disclosed alerts were also issued for damaging coastal winds and rough seas.

“These conditions could lead to localized flooding, considering the level of the ground saturation from previous rainfall in the last few days,” Charlotte Powell said.

Authorities urged the public not to travel unless it was necessary. Last week, thousands of people were affected across the province by a series of cold fronts that threatened the region.

The western Cape town is expecting more rain as it was hit by another cold front overnight, resulting in increased flooding. Meanwhile, Cape Town has placed disaster management team on high alert on Monday morning 19 June by blocking roads to motorist and will resume mop-up operations.

“These departments will be on standby for any further disruptions that may occur from the latest forecast.” Charlotte Powell added.
