The Cholera death toll in South Africa has risen to 26 since the breakout occurred in February and claimed many lives.

The epic center, North of Pretoria has claimed 24 lives, while the free state Mpumalanga has a record of one death.

Health workers say they are still in search of the cause of the disease, says dozens of water are under test.

Cholera is a water-borne disease, caused by the bacterium vibrio cholera. Usually contracted when a person consumes contaminated food or water.

The disease has the potential to cause uneasiness and severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration when; left untreated within a few hours can cause death.

Cholera breed on poor sanitation and contaminated environments, especially from food and water, health workers have advised the public to practice good hygiene, wash their hands often and avoid consuming any contaminated water or food.
