Natahsa Thahane is in hot water after revealing that Baleka Mbete, a government official in 2017, paid for her studies at the New York Film Academy.
During an interview on MacG’s Podcast & Chill, the actress stated that she approached Baleka with a request for funding, and the politician contacted the Department of Art & Culture, which paid her R1 million tuition fee.

“I asked Mam’ Baleka (Mbete) and was like, ‘Mama, I need to go back to school. I’ve been accepted… I don’t know what I’m going to do, can I have funds? Please arrange something for me.’ She managed to speak to (the department) Arts and Culture and they were able to help me,” Natahsa Thahane said on the podcast.
Baleka was the Speaker of Parliament and the ANC Chairperson at the time.
Natasha’s confession video has gone viral on social media, and she is being chastised alongside the former ANC chairperson.

Funding for education must come through the proper channels and must be allocated according to need.
