The South African hip-hop scene is known for its vibrant and often volatile nature. Recently, sparks have been flying between two of its prominent figures: Emtee and Big Zulu.

Emtee, the “Roll Up” hitmaker, has reignited tensions with his recent comments about the Inkabi Records boss, Big Zulu, claiming that Zulu’s extensive music catalogue lacks a single hit song.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Emtee didn’t mince his words. “Big Zulu can’t make a hit to save his life,” he wrote. This bold statement prompted a flurry of reactions from fans and other artists alike.

While some fans supported Emtee’s harsh critique, others were quick to jump to Big Zulu’s defence. One prominent voice among the defenders was veteran hip-hop DJ Zan-D.

He expressed his disapproval of Emtee’s comments, emphasizing that such disputes are counterproductive, especially when the hip-hop community should be focusing on reclaiming its top spot.

“Nobody wins when the family feuds. I thought we were all trying to rebuild and take hip-hop back where it belongs: the top!” DJ Zan-D asserted.

DJ Zan-D wasn’t the only one to respond to Emtee’s comments; Big Xhosa also weighed in, challenging the father of three’s views.

He argued that Big Zulu stands out as the sole hitmaker in the South African hip-hop scene at the moment. “This is a lie, out of all you HIP-HOP niggas Big Zulu is the only one still making hits,” wrote Big Xhosa.

Emtee has made it clear that he’s not ready to let go of his beef with Big Zulu. He feels that the “Imali Eningi” hitmaker mocked him for losing his Mercedes-Benz, which had been in several accidents, and took it as Big Zulu laughing at his misfortunes.

“I was involved in five car accidents, that’s why I ain’t got the Merc no more. So a n**g wanna diss me about that sh*t, I tell you it’s personal. I could’ve died in one of them accidents, and n**g is talking about my garage is empty.” Emtee said.
