A video of Khumalo’s frank response to attorney Zithulele Nxumalo during cross-examination caused her to become a trending topic on social media.

Many people commented on Khumalo’s replies on social media, particularly those paying close attention to the murder trial. There were conflicting views; some supported her, while others questioned her motivations.
Despite this, the singer remained unmoved and said on social media that “the time of shrinking to make others comfortable is over.”

She met with eNCA and even wrote Presiden Cyril Ramaphosa a public letter begging him to help prioritize the Senzo Meyiwa trial.
Her letter followed President Ramaphosa’s suspension of Judge Tshifiwa Maumela and the appointment of Judge Mokgoatlheng to preside over the prominent case.
