Kid X inquires, “Your music has a lot of UK influence, especially evident in the song ‘Lavida Loca’ that’s received radio airplay. Where does this influence stem from, and what attracts you to the UK sound?”

In response, Roiii said that he was pushing South African hip-hop to accomplish something that had never been done before. This is because the rap culture had been adopted from the USA. He continues, “Hip-hop didn’t originate in SA; we adapted and personalized it from America. My aim was to replicate that transformative process.

When I released the hit track, it was during a period when our hip-hop scene lacked a distinct voice.”

Roiii elaborates on his creative strategy, stating, “Consequently, we needed to strategize more effectively, become more inventive, and embrace uncharted musical territories to set ourselves apart.

This compelled me to venture into styles and industries previously unexplored.”

The rapper concludes, “This approach mirrors the spirit with which we initially embraced hip-hop. By embracing UK drill, we rekindled that same innovative spirit, carving out a unique space for ourselves within the genre.”
