Amakipkip, the renowned clothing brand owned by south African rapper DA LES has taken the decision to stop the production of tribute T-shirts featuring the likeness of late rapper AKA.

This was as a result of a wave of concerns and backlash from both the Forbes family and AKA’s dedicated fan base known as “The Megacy.”

The brand had introduced these tribute T-shirts recently as a means of honoring the memory of the rapper, whose real name was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes.

However, the move was met with disapproval from various quarters, including Nadia Nakai, Steffan Forbes(AKA’s family member), and numerous supporters of the beloved rap icon.

In response, Amakipkip addressed the issue through a social media statement, clarifying their intentions behind the tribute T-shirts and expressing regret for any offense caused.

The brand acknowledged the concerns raised by both the family and fans, and in light of the feedback received, has decided to cease production of the controversial T-shirts.

The statement read: “We deeply apologize for any distress caused by our recent release of a tribute T-shirt dedicated to the late rapper AKA.

We apologize for doing this without acquiring the necessary consent from the entire family. Our intention was never to be hurtful; rather, it was to honor AKA’s legacy and uphold justice.

“Unfortunately, we miscalculated the importance of seeking consent from the complete AKA Family, and for this lapse, we express sincere regret.”
