Sad news has hit the Nigerian film and entertainment industry as veteran comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has passed away at the age of 62.
His death comes after a prolonged battle with a life-threatening illness, which ultimately led to the amputation of his leg.
According to reports, Mr Ibu underwent seven surgeries before his leg was amputated. The actor’s health took a turn for the worse, and he recently had to undergo another surgery on the same leg. As a result, he had difficulty speaking and communicating.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in on social media, with fans and colleagues alike expressing their grief and remembering the impact Mr Ibu had on the Nigerian film industry.
John Okafor ‘s unique comedic style and larger-than-life personality made him a beloved figure in Nollywood.
Mr Ibu’s career spanned several decades, and he starred in numerous popular movies, bringing laughter and joy to audiences across Nigeria and beyond. His comedic timing and ability to make people laugh will be sorely missed.
