Move over, mainstream narratives! Free State model and student Mia Le Roux has just been crowned Miss South Africa 2024, making history as the first hearing-impaired winner in the competition’s 66-year history.
Yes, you heard that right—pun intended! This win is not just a personal triumph for Mia but a monumental shift for inclusivity in beauty pageants.
Media personality Nandi Madida, known for her compelling wit and candour, expressed her deep admiration for Mia’s achievement.

Nandi, who is also a mother to neurodivergent children (one who is autistic and the other with ADHD), took to her timeline to underscore the significance of Mia’s win.
‘As a mother to a beautiful girl who is on the autistic spectrum, getting to watch Mia Le Roux, who is deaf and has a cochlear implant, win Miss South Africa with my daughter is a moment I will forever cherish,’ she wrote.
‘Not only is it a game changer for the world, but one for the little kids out there who didn’t think it was possible. Inclusivity matters. Congrats Mia and to all the Miss South Africa contestants.’
Congratulations to Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024! And kudos to Nandi Madida for using her platform to champion inclusivity.
