The president was headed to Ukraine to take part in the African leader's peace mission over the war in the region with his security team when the incident occurred, however, Cyril Ramaphosa's plane did not have any challenges asides that of his security team expected to have arrived on ground before him.

South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa’s security and journalists have been left stranded at the airport in Poland.

The president was headed to Ukraine to take part in the African leader’s peace mission over the war in the region with his security team when the incident occurred.

However, Ramaphosa’s plane did not have any challenges asides from that his security team expected to have arrived on the ground before him.

‘The head of the team, Major General Wally Rhoode narrated the ordeal saying that, South African government had obtained all necessary permits and had been in touch with the Polish government over the visit.

“They are putting the life of the president in Jeopardy because we could have been in Kyiv on Friday afternoon already,” he said.

He added that one of the female personnel from the team was allegedly stripped and searched, “It is unheard of for someone on a diplomatic passport would be asked to reload their cargo onto a plane, amid fears that their weapons might be confiscated. And I want to see you this, how racist they are” he said.

Meanwhile, the Polish Foreign Minister on Friday responded to the incident, claiming that the Plane conveying the SA president Cyril Ramaphosa’s security team was delayed because it was carrying dangerous weapons that had not been cleared.

“On board the plane, there were dangerous materials which were not authorized by South African representatives. There were people on board the plane who had not been previously notified to the Polish side,” the foreign minister said.
