The tension between Malaika’s former members, Tshedi Mholo and Bongani Nchang, seems to be far from over.

This ongoing feud has kept fans and followers on the edge of their seats since Tshedi announced her departure from the band in 2021. The band’s history, laden with melodious hits, has now turned into a saga of legal battles and social media showdowns.

Yesterday, Tshedi took to social media to share a cease and desist letter from Bongani’s legal team. According to the letter, Tshedi has been performing Malaika’s songs without permission.

‘For the past five years you have been performing songs (music) belonging to the band, Malaika, without the knowledge or permission of our client,’ the letter sternly reads.

The legal notice aims to stop Tshedi from performing the group’s old hits, adding another layer to their already complicated relationship.

Tshedi has accused Bongani of using her name for bookings despite her departure from the band. She even shared a poster with her name on it to substantiate her claims.

Meanwhile, Tshedi alleges that there was never an agreement to replace her in the band, and she has faced verbal, financial, and psychological bullying from Bongani since she left.

The toxicity in their relationship appears to have reached a boiling point, making reconciliation seem like a distant dream

Malaika was formed in 2003 by Bongani, Tshedi, and Jabulani Ndaba, who unfortunately passed away in 2008 after a long battle with TB. The band saw success and created memorable hits, but the harmony that once united them has now turned into discord.

With Tshedi and Bongani not on speaking terms, the band’s legacy is overshadowed by their ongoing dispute.

As the drama unfolds, fans are left wondering if there will ever be a resolution. For now, it seems the Malaika saga is far from over, with both parties standing firm on their respective sides of the battleground.
