Media personality Somizi Mhlongo found himself in hot water recently when he was accused of fabricating a WhatsApp message allegedly from the late playwright Mbongeni Ngema. Despite his attempt to explain the situation, fans remained unconvinced and demanded more proof.
Somizi initially shared a heartfelt tribute to his mentor, accompanied by a screenshot of the supposed message from Ngema. However, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that the message was actually from Somizi himself. Oops!
In response to the backlash, Somizi took to Instagram to clear the air. He posted a video explaining how the mix-up occurred, stating that he had accidentally copied the message intending to send it to a WhatsApp group chat but ended up pasting it on Ngema’s chat instead. To make matters worse, he then unknowingly took a screenshot of his own message, thinking it was from Ngema. Talk about a comedy of errors!
Unfortunately for Somizi, his explanation didn’t quite hit the mark with his followers. Many expressed their skepticism and urged him to share the authentic message from Ngema to put an end to the controversy.
They argued that without concrete evidence, his explanation seemed like just another attempt to cover up the alleged fabrication.
While some fans empathized with Somizi’s mistake, others were less forgiving. They demanded receipts and insisted that only the original message from Ngema himself would clear all doubts.
So, the question remains: will Somizi provide the much-needed proof to silence the skeptics? Only time will tell. Until then, it seems like this WhatsApp message mishap will continue to be the talk of the town.
