BET award-winning singer Makhadzi has reportedly declined an offer of R150,000 to perform at the Phalaphala Royal Heritage Festival.

This yearly event has seen her grace the stage numerous times, making her absence quite the topic of conversation this year. So, what’s going on? The whispers started swirling when it was revealed that Makhadzi wouldn’t appear at the fest this year.

Taking to social media, Makhadzi addressed the rumours head-on. “I am not going to Phalaphala Royal Heritage; they say they don’t have a budget. I am setting the record straight so that my fans and followers shouldn’t say I intentionally refused to be there or I am becoming big-headed,” she shared.

It turns out that the organizers couldn’t afford her performance fee this year, prompting her to turn down the gig. Makhadzi’s candour helps clear the air for her devoted fans.

Despite the noise, Makhadzi remains unequivocally loyal to her principles. “I realised that there were already false rumours spreading about my name in this regard. I’m still Makhadzi of the nation under the motto; no pay, no job, and vice versa,” she explained.

Furthermore, she acknowledged the reality of budget constraints faced by event organizers.

“As someone who’s organising my upcoming one-woman show at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 21 December, I really get on good terms with the fact that organisers aren’t compelled to book an artist without a proper budget to do such.”

Makhadzi is shifting her focus to her much-anticipated one-woman show, also on December 21st. Tickets are selling out rapidly, showing that her fans are thrilled to see her in action, with or without her appearance at the Phalaphala Royal Heritage Festival.

For Makhadzi, it’s clear: integrity and fairness in the music business come first. And her fans? They’re on board for the ride, every step of the way.
