The 40-year-old celebrity passed away early on Saturday. Sbu Ncube, manager of West Ink Records, confirmed the news to SurgeZirc SA and promised a public statement.

The 40-year-old, whose true name is Mandla Maphumulo, was admitted to King Edward Hospital in Durban, according to a statement from the record company Afrotainment that was officially released on Wednesday. This confirms rumors that first surfaced over the weekend.
This came after the celebrity, who gained notoriety as a member of the musical group Big Nuz, experienced a minor stroke. It further mentioned that doctors were monitoring over the musician.

Babes, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, and Mampintsha are the parents of Sponge.
The pair tied the knot a year ago and their wedding was screened in a Showmax special, in addition to the reality TV show Uthando Lodumo.
